  • Tutorial How to get started in making custom themes

How to get started in making custom themes? If you don't know, or if you are beginner, down below is a list what you will need to start.

Download all you need to make your custom theme.

The list of all needed programs in making custom themes:

    -WSB/VistaStyleBuilder
    -Photoshop or Paint
    -Restorator 2007
    -
PDF of Complete theme building tutorial
    -Base theme file

    Other Utilities:
    -Styles hacks
    -Unfinished projects

    -Notepad++
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All info about Programs you will need:
-WSB/VistaStyleBuilder is one of the important programs in making custom themes. Also WSB is program who is putting all your images into one theme, and you can download it HERE

-Photoshop or Paint.I f you want to have more detailed images and much better images, then I suggest you to use Photoshop.
If you want to do quick editing images then you can take Paint.

-Restorator 2007 is software needed in making extras for the theme. Extras like explorer.exe, editing dll files etc.
Restorator is an award-winning utility for editing Windows resources in applications and their components; e.g. files with
.exe, .dll, .res, .rc, and .dcr, msstyles extensions.

-PDF of Complete theme building tutorial: When you open your WSB program probably you will not know where to start. But there is a great theme building tutorial
in PDF format you will find all locations located in WSB.Download it HERE

-Base theme file: Since you're beginner you will need base theme msstlye file. I do not suggest to start making a custom theme from Aero base. That would be even hard for great designers.

    All info about Other UTILITIES:
-Styles hacks: Style hacks can be added into your WSB program that will allow you to have many features. Check out the link to see many styles hacks and more info HERE

-Unfinished projects: Are projects from designers that are not finished. You can download many right here at MegaThemer and you can continue with making your own theme.
Unfinished projects can be found HERE

-Notepad++ is really handy program if you need to do editing in UI files.

This will help our moderating task's around quite a bit Dragan..

Thanks for putting this together and posted here today bud..

        PS,
I did some tweaking on the OP. Mainly with spelling, structure, etc.
And the last link should point to the sub forum of Graveyard themes not the one thread in the forum.

Great info for new themers. Thanks for putting it together.
If i may, i only add Notepad++ or Notepad2 to the list of applications, for editing ui files.
