  • Budgets, Dreaming, Conflicts....What is my Next.

Well Folks this time I'm going over what I'm looking at and my Thoughts as I plan my Budget. Hopefully what I'm showing will help some of you in your Future Endeavors.

As mentioned in my Previous thread What CPU am I going to use? Well my thoughts are as follows, Intel makes a Great Product but if your Rich and Don't really care about anything other than Bling! or a Scientist Intel is the way for you to go! I've looked at Pricing on an Intel setup and what I see is Simple, for around $400 you get a Good to Great Motherboard and the CPU on the other hand is around $600 I personally would only go for an i7 CPU because Price Performance concerns, but anyways that makes Just the CPU&MoBo cost roughly $1000(this is all USD BTW). Well now lets see what a $1000 can get me on performance since this is the Base sum of money I can go with.

AMD on the other hand I can Get: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819113284 which ether Beats or Equals most of the Intel line for performance but can I do better? now comes the Question of CPU or APU because the new http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819113359 Flatly Blows any i3 or i5 out of the water with Both CPU and Graphics(BTW Haswell's are all APU's) and it rivals the some of the i7's but still blows all Haswell Graphics out of the Water! On the plus side you can see by the links that the Highest price CPU or APU from AMD is still cheaper than most of the Intel offerings. Next point is Power, yes I'll say that Intel CPUs/APUs are a hell of a lot better but when you combine a Desecrate GPU setup like Crossfire or SLI who the hell cares if the CPU is Sucking up more Juice because your going to a 1000w PSU anyways just to drive your Video Cards.

Next is the Motherboards....There's a lot to choose from here! I'm looking at a Mini-ITX of which I have only 1 choice on AMD CPU and that's an APU but on the Intel line I can use Just about any APU/CPU but here's my Choices on the Mobo.

AMD and the only one available thru Newegg that isn't ASUS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128663 Yes I know with an ITX setup the best I'm going to get is 16gigs of Ram but on the other hand I'm getting Features that are only avalible on Intel Mobo's and that's the BlueTooth and WiFi Built in....and I'm going to need a Really Good Graphics Card to keep from an SLI/Crossfire Need or use a Dual GPU Card but remember with the AMD APU the you can Crossfire with a GPU and the OnBoard GPU to bolster Graphics but that doesn't work on the Intel Lines....OOOPPPPPSSS's

So now we have a base price for MoBo and CPU for me to work with and since I'm Low Budget anyway you can guess which way I'm leaning to $1000 Intel or $275 for basically the same thing. Now don't get me wrong I can come close to the same price with an Intel setup if I cut back CPU and MoBo but if I go Intel I want a MoBo that has and does EVERYTHING! and like I stated earlier an i7 4770k would be the Lowest I would use because of Price/Performance issues.

Next on my list is Memory If I go with Intel just about anything will work and work great but on the AMD side you have to be more Picky because not every Module is made to run on an AMD CPU so in this case I'm looking more towards: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820103038 but also looking at:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820233536.

So now I'm at $464USD and I still need an HD so here;s my choice on that: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820147251 at less that .50 cents a gig you can't go wrong plus it's a Terabyte SSD!...

Well Now I just about a Full Computer for the less that a Mobo and CPU from Intel....$933 for Mobo, CPU, SSD, and memory all I need is a good PSU and Case...Well the case I'm going to Scratch Build out of Oak....why because I can! and PSU I'm not too sure which yet but I'll get back to all of you about it later. OH as for the Video Card to game with this is what I'm looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150705 Why, because I've owned and used XFX in the past and they've always done me right plus it's got a Lifetime Warenty!

Well that's all of my thoughts on this subject at the moment hope you all enjoyed.

For the cost of that SSD you can get four of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822236625

Yea but you can't get the speed but that is a Great idea for a Data Drive RAID 5 setup! Great Catch!

In regards to buying a CPU, you just have to consider what your overall plan is going to be for the machine that you are going to be building. If you are going to be using your machine for say stuff like graphic design, gaming, or digital media production, then you want to not focus on buying a high priced and powerful CPU and focus more so on buying a good graphics card. However if you are going to be doing a lot with programming and doing things that are heavy on your system like running a complex gaming/media/web/MMO server, or you're requiring the needs of the CPU for things that are much greater then by all means go for the high-priced CPU. However in regards to comparing AMD vs Intel, it is fair to say that neither are better than one another, but still very different. Personally I would only use an AMD in a physical server rather than an active desktop environment where operations matter. BUT (with all that being said) before I can give an honest opinion, (if you don't mind me asking). What are your plans are for your new machine.

Nerd420Elite, Look here:http://www.megathemer.net/showthread...0698#post30698 I describe at the beginning what I'm doing and as to software I don't use anything really advanced just Photoshop, Eaglesoft Design CAD, VS10 for Programming(because the newer version doesn't support Assembly well and also Flat Assembler with IDA Pro Advanced Support. As you can see the most demanding software is Photoshop CS6. Hell with this system I can stay as far away from Windows 8 as possible hell I could even use Windows XP for the OS if it was still supported. My games are the most Demanding that I have and that's really Skyrim that pushes my current system to it's knees, every other game I have I'm Way over Powered for.

Hey mate, has anything changed since Kaveri came out? in that you can only CFX a R7 240, or a 250 with the APU's? this was one of the maddening things quite a few reviewers were going on about at Kaveri's launch, because AMD were saying "all GPU's" but then, reviewers found out that it could only be done with the 2 mentioned GPU's -.- paired GDDR3 iGPU to GDDR3 GPU's.

Apu houses the PCI Express controller. Kaveri chips themselves sport PCI Express 3.0 support with up to 24 lanes. So there's bags of external bandwidth on offer. Also, the integrated Radeon R7 branded GPU is pretty cool and there's support for 4K resolutions at 60Hz via DisplayPort 1.2 as well as dual-link DVI capability. Therefore, you can run a high-end desktop experience, barring 3D performance, with Kaveri's integrated graphics.

Re: Budgets, Dreaming, Conflicts....What is my Next.

Ahhh Thank you Ordos! you remembered what I said over on the ROG Forums and got told by Richard aka MarshallR that I didn't know what i was talking about! Yes the Kaveri has PCIE 3.0 and it was available before Asus's Chief Idiot said it was and Richard/MarshallR stated that 'If and When AMD would Release a APU/CPU with PCIE-3 Their Motherboards Would Be Ready! 3 Months after the Event Happened! Truthfully if you remember all of the bad will between the AMD supporters and the Staff/Asus plus their Refusal to give AMD owners any Support or Consideration is why I left and truthfully I was the Chief Target for most of it because I kept telling everyone what was coming before Asus/MarshallR could and admonishing them for Lack of Features/Updating AMD Product Lines like they were with Intel. Hell even Gigabyte has better General AMD Motherboards than ANY ASUS AMD Product out there and Hell Yes if ASUS would have put out a MoBo for AMD with built in WiFi/Bluetooth in a ROG Form I would have paid $400 just like the Intel Lines.....come on I paid almost $300 for the Crosshair IV Formula at near the end of it's Life at Newegg and if I didn't win the Crosshair V Formula/Thunderbolt when I did I was already getting ready to pay $412 to Newegg for it already so yea I would have paid for it but Asus in their Idiot thoughts couldn't fathom their Customers wanting anything or paying for it so AMD Owners/Supporters get Screwed! Gygabyte, MSI and the rest of them follow what Asus does and if Asus won't put WiFi/BT or AppleThunderbolt(which is Intel's Lights Peak in reality) nobody else is. So once again AMD Owners/Supporters get Screwed!

And a little side note AMD's Next Gens are going to support DDR4 and SATA 3.2, so get ready for some AMAZING Performance Enhancements.
