  • Hammer's first build...

Some of you may know i have been absent for some time due to my Motherboard failure on my Gateway desktop.
Other reasons for my absence include an overwhelming amount of work this year. I have not slowed down ALL YEAR LONG!

The up side to extra work is extra $$$.
So I set out to find a replacement MB for the Gateway and spend some of this extra cash.
But I still had too much $$$ left over so I decided to cut loose and build my 1st custom build.
Kind of like Rob ( @chevy350: ) who 's always working overtime and recently upgraded his ride recently...
Gonna keep the Gateway for hand-me-downs later on but this new beast is all for HAMMER!!!

All my parts are in except one. And that one is the card reader so I have to wait to upload some pix of the actual setup later on.
Actually I did receive one card reader but I sent it back because I happen to come across one I liked better and it matches this Corsair case perfectly! (Next image below)

    Re: Hammer's first build...

    OH, forgot the drive's...
For the O/S, I just had to go SSD.
Settled on the 'SAMSUNG 850 Pro Series MZ-7KE512BW 2.5" 512GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive'
    image_8238.png

    And for 2 backups I have a WD - 3TB Black, and a WD - 3TB green...
All internal this time. Too many issues with the externals, and too many files to risk losing.
    image_8239.png

Now onto the eye candy part...
Candy in the part that it is green, but useful in the sense that I want/need more air flow.
X2 - COUGAR 12CM Green LED Hydraulic (Liquid) Bearing Ultra Silent Fan 1200RPM, 64.4CFM, 16.6dBA
These 2 - 120's will exhaust at the top..
    image_8241.jpgimage_8240.png

    The speakers seemed to take the longest to settle on;
Logitech Z506 75 watts RMS 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers
    image_8242.png

    And still thinking about....

          Re: Hammer's first build...

Looks pretty awesome, corsair makes some pretty roomy cases, should help keep the 290 cool

My only suggestion with running that video card would be to dump that big side fan and put one or two 120mm's there as intakes blowing air across the card, the reference ones need all the help they can get but from what I've read on the custom cooled cards they don't get as hot. Other than that you should be on that for a few years, plus can always add new stuff here an there because we all know once you start that journey down the do-it-yourself builds it never ends

Thanks for stopping by Rob, know your prob still working overtime, lol..

This case is designed/built for expansion. Comes with 4 fans and room for 5 more I believe. As of right now I have 2 x 140mm on order and thinking to add these right on top..
Now yesterday i saw a setup pic on the website showing 3 more added inside, or opposite of the drive bays. These have to be 120mm's but that may be needed also??
                  500R7.png

LOL, and you are right again. Already I want to add on again.. hehehe..
What I really want is some better sound while I'm at it.
Number 1 I'd like to find something with wireless speakers because of the issues with speaker wires laying everywhere.
And then if possible something in the home theater class .
You have any experience wiring anything thing this?

                          Re: Hammer's first build...

Most i've done sound wise is plug headset's in and HDMI cable to watch movies on the tv lol. I would only put the extra fans on the back of the drive bays if your temps warrant. If everything stays comfy it'll be happy 140's up top will def get the heat out. I removed the midde drive cage in mine to open up air straight to the card but I also have 4 spots to mount the SSD's behind the motherboard tray. You can get 3 drives to a cage but I've found it easier to leave a gap since the cables can sometimes be a pain to get to, but it just depends on how your cables are too.
